It happens to all of us!

"Mojo" is often used to describe a kind of magical charm, personal magnetism, or a special quality that makes someone successful or attractive. Think of it as your unique spark or vibe that helps you get things done or feel confident.

Getting stuck in a photography slump happens to many of us, we tend to do the 'same-old same-old' week in and week out. Here are some great ways to reignite your creativity and passion and get out of your slump:

Change Your Environment: Often we have a routine, we go to the same location at the same time. Switch up and find a new location or even just a different time of day can inspire you. Explore new places nearby or revisit familiar spots with fresh eyes.

Get Inspired by Others: Look at the work of photographers you admire, browse photography blogs, or join online communities. Seeing others’ creativity can motivate you to try new things.

Experiment: Try out new editing styles, learn about different camera settings, try new ways of shooting the same thing from a different perspective or angle.

Challenge yourself: Here the list is endless but what is important is to do something. To get you going here are some examples:

  • Shoot in camera for a week just in black and white (monochrome) and see where it takes you.
  • Make a theme for a week like 'shadows' or 'reflections' etc., and consciously find those subjects. This will force you to look at a scene with intention.Select just one lens (preferable a fixed lens) and shoot only with that for one week.....could be interesting!
  • Focus only on eyes only, humans and animals, with shallow depth of field and closeup!

....and the list is endless. You need to come up with your challenges and to be more inspired get a friend to do it with you!

Background detail: Make the background your priority, and reposition yourself or your subject to keep it clean. There is a saying many photographers use "take care of the background and the foreground will take care of itself".

Golden hour: We all love to shoot during the 'golden hour' because it is great for soft light. So try something different, shoot against the light during this time to create stunning silhouettes or lens flares that add mood and drama.

So finding your photography mojo basically means reconnecting with your confidence, passion, and motivation — the things that make you feel energized and at your best. We all go through times when we feel a bit off track or less inspired, and finding your mojo helps you get back into that positive flow. It can boost your creativity, improve your mood, and help you tackle challenges with more enthusiasm.
